My Health

In 2009 I got pretty sick.  I had flu-like symptoms, but it wasn't the flu.   I developed Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms, but it wasn't RA.  I had Lupus-like skin rashes, but it wasn't Lupus. (It's never lupus---House fans? anyone?)  Anyway...long story short, after two long years, I was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Because it took so long to diagnose, the disease had time to spread all over my body...even to my brain. Needless to say it is going to take a while to heal.

I started off seeing a doctor in  Missouri, but now I have found one closer to home (Houston---it is closer!)
and I am being treated by her.  I have been on lots of antibiotics and sometimes the treatments make me almost as sick as the lyme disease itself.  But I am improving.  I will get better.

The main reason I tell you this is to spread awareness.  There are so many misconceptions about lyme disease.  For one, you don't have to have a bullseye rash.  I never had one.  Or if I did, it was on the back of my neck or somewhere I couldn't see it.  Also, I never even knew a tick bit me!!!   The nymph deer tick is the size of a pumpernickel seed.  It doesn't even have to stay attached for it to transmit lyme disease to you. One little bite, and you could be infected.  If you DO see a tick on you, or you do find a strange bullseye (or circular) rash---Get To The Doctor!  Lyme can be treated if caught right away.  A little doxycycline and you will probably be fine.

Another reason I tell you about my illness is so you understand why I don't take on too many jobs at a time.   I go through really bad spells when working is very difficult, but then I have times that I feel pretty good and I am able to do several sessions back to back.  Sometimes, I think shooting helps me feel better. Chronic Lyme disease is extremely painful and anything that can help get my mind of the pain is VERY NICE! Luckily my husband can shoot with me on days I'm hurting, so I haven't had to turn down any jobs.  I love photography and I am thankful I am still healthy enough to continue, even if it is just part time.
